Wide Stance Larry – Still Guilty

I used to live in Minneapolis, and it’s a great town, full of Midwestern common sense.

Like this:

A Minnesota judge today rejected Sen. Larry Craig’s bid to withdraw his guilty plea in an airport sex sting, a major setback in Craig’s effort to clear his name and hang onto his Senate seat.

“Because the defendant’s plea was accurate, voluntary and intelligent, and because the conviction is supported by the evidence … the Defendant’s motion to withdraw his guilty plea is denied,” Hennepin County Judge Charles Porter wrote.

Well, I don’t know how intelligent it was, but Craig wasn’t hoodwinked – he gambled that a quiet guilty plea would never see the light of day, and he lost.

Schadenfreude is a dangerous thing – it’s easy to get caught up in it, and it’s not, how would I put this, terribly Christian.

But geez, seeing a homophobic, gay-bashing law-and-order Republican vanquished by a combination of his apparently uncontrollable gay urges and a judge who wouldn’t take back the book Craig threw at himself – that’s special.

[TPM dug up the lovely clip of Larry Craig scolding “naughty boy” Bill Clinton.]
