No on 8

Prop 8 is the California ballot proposition that would reverse – constitutionally – the State Supreme Court’s May 15th decision legalizing gay marriage.

Early polls showed this heading to a fairly resounding defeat, and generally, ballot proposition support decreases, rather than increases, over time.

Except when there’s lots of money spent to buck them up – over a third, as of mid-September, coming from a Mormon-organized Yes on 8 website. And now, Prop 8 leads, 2 1/2 weeks before election day. The No on 8 forces are being outspent.

I’ll lay off the ludicrous notion that a state constitution can be altered by a simple majority. For now, the No on 8 folks need money.

This weekend, your contribution to Equality California will be matched. So now is the time to pony up. Over time, support for these hateful measures has dropped. Californians can end this legalized bigotry once and for all.

Go here and donate. Your money will help pay for more airings of the ad above which is highly effective with undecided voters – they break 2-1 against Prop 8 after viewing it alongside the Yes on 8 ads.

If you’re not from California, don’t let that stop you. It’s not stopping folks on the other side.

Give now.
