A brief diversion

6_nikonsmallworld_461From the best microscopic images of 2008, the answer – and 6th place finisher – shows you exactly how many leaf beetles can dance on the head of a pin.

I also like this one:
5_nikonsmallworld_461…which is a laser microscopic image of Japanese paper.

Finally, the winner:
1_nikonsmallworld_461 “Sinewy filaments within squirming microscopic diatoms, a type of algae, are artificially rainbow hued as a result of being photographed through polarizing light filters.”

Very cool.
