Poem of the week

You really do learn new stuff all the time if you surf the internet.

There’s a blog called, simply, Poem of the Week. This week it features Langston Hughes, who coincidentally, was the subject of a paper I wrote when I was in 6th Grade. This week’s selection has always been one of my favorites:

I, Too, Sing America

I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

I’ll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody’ll dare
Say to me,
“Eat in the kitchen,”

They’ll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed–

I, too, am America.
